SQUARE is located in Mont-des-Arts, an area that today offers a fine combination of culture, energy, business and leisure. With its rich history, it was once a medieval palace of the Dukes of Brabant and then a European power centre under the Habsburgs, where the first Belgian monarch took his oath in 1831. However, the fate of Mont-des-Arts changed and its well-to-do streets turned into a slum. Eventually the houses were demolished and replaced by a park that hosted the Exposition Universelle et Internationale, a world’s fair, in 1910. Constantly changing, the Mont des Arts was rebuilt in 1958 and housed the Royal Library of Belgium and the Brussels Congress Center, which it is today. With its location near the European institutions, it has come full circle and the Mont des Arts is once again closely linked to the center of power in Europe.
SQUARE is proud to have received the first star of the Ecodynamic label awarded by the Brussels Environment Agency. They are working hard to achieve a second star and this challenge is led by their two eco-coordinators, who ensure that Team SQUARE consistently improves the sustainability of their infrastructure and services. This is supported by the Think Green policy initiated by GL events, which focuses on energy savings, better waste management and ensuring that our entire supply chain adheres to our environmental commitment.
